Macrame Workshop by Sirarpi Asatryan

  • Backhaus Projects 168 Weserstr. Berlin, BE, 12045 Germany (map)

Textiles have often been undervalued and marginalized within the western world. This is a significant loss for the art scene and for women who used textile crafts to come together, share knowledge, share stories, express themselves, and weave connections. This marginalization means that textile crafts are in danger of being forgotten forever.

Macrame is one of the fiber crafts that allows us to adopt a decolonial perspective. It incorporates knotting techniques that can be used to create all sorts of objects. With the knowledge of just one knot, you can create a beautiful piece for yourself. How wonderful it is to decorate your living space with your own handmade macrame!

Through creating a wall tapestry, we will explore seemingly complex knot combinations and craft new, intricate, and beautiful knot patterns ourselves. This is a beginners class.
